Careers at Bell Road Automotive

Six bays, five lifts, and room for someone who does the job properly

We are always interested in hearing from good technicians and service writers, whether or not a role is posted at the moment. If you would rather diagnose a car than upsell one, we should talk.

The Roles

Two seats we are always willing to fill for the right person

We do not run a constant hiring campaign. What we do is keep the door open, because a technician who diagnoses properly and a service writer who explains honestly are both hard to find and worth waiting for. Send us something even when nothing is posted.

Automotive Technician

You will work across domestic, Asian and European vehicles on everything from factory scheduled maintenance to drivability diagnosis, brake and suspension work, electrical faults, timing belts and transmission service. Six bays and five lifts means you are not waiting in line for equipment.

What matters here is diagnosis. We do not throw parts at a symptom and we do not ask anyone to sell work a vehicle does not need. If your instinct is to test before you replace, you will fit.

  • ASE certification, or the experience and intent to get there
  • Comfortable with scan tools, live data and wiring diagrams, not just code readers
  • Your own hand tools
  • A clean driving record, since you will be road testing customer vehicles

Service Writer

You are the voice of the shop. You take the call, get the year, make, model and the real description of what the vehicle is doing, write it up so the technician starts in the right place, and then explain the findings back to the customer in language that respects them.

Half this job is translation and half is trust. Our customers come back for decades because nobody here has ever been asked to pad an estimate, and the person at the counter is where that reputation is either kept or lost.

  • Genuinely comfortable on the phone and at the counter
  • Enough mechanical understanding to write an accurate ticket
  • Organized under pressure, because bays and appointments do not wait
  • Willing to say a repair can wait when it honestly can

The Shop Itself

What you are actually walking into on 19th Avenue

This is a small independent shop, not a chain location with a regional manager and a monthly quota. It has stood at 17203 N 19th Ave since 1968. Andy and Reinette have owned it since 2008 and Andy still runs diagnostics himself, which means the person setting the standard is the person working next to you.

The work is varied

European vehicles are a large share of what comes through, alongside domestic and Asian makes. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Saab and Mini turn up regularly. You are not doing the same three jobs all week.

The equipment is current

Six service bays, five lifts, and diagnostic equipment that gets updated because European module architecture makes it necessary. NAPA Gold Certified AutoCare, which sets a standard the shop has to keep meeting.

The hours are humane

Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Closed Sunday. No late nights and no on call rotation, which in this trade is worth saying out loud.

The customers stay

Many of the people whose cars you will work on have been coming here for ten or twenty years, and some bring their second and third vehicle. That changes the job. You are maintaining relationships, not processing tickets.

Pay, schedule and benefits are discussed directly and honestly when we talk, because they depend on the role and on what you bring. Ask, and you will get a straight answer rather than a range designed to sound good in a posting.

How To Apply

Three ways in, and none of them involve a broken PDF

Applying here does not require an account, a portal, or a form that only works in one browser. Pick whichever of these suits you and we will take it from there.

Call the shop

Ask for Andy or Reinette on (602) 993-5400 during business hours. If it is busy in the bays, say you are calling about work and leave a number. You will get a call back.

Send a message

Use the contact form and tell us which role interests you, what you have worked on, and where you are now. Attach nothing at first. If we want a resume we will ask for one.

Stop by in person

17203 N 19th Ave, on 19th Avenue just north of Bell Road and a short run east of the I-17. Mid morning or mid afternoon is usually calmer than opening or closing. Ask at the counter.

Directions and hours

What happens next

A conversation, then a walk through the shop so you can see the bays and the equipment for yourself. For technician roles we will usually want to see how you approach a diagnosis rather than just talk about it.

Questions

What people ask before they apply

There is no position posted. Is it worth contacting you?
Yes. We keep an eye out for the right people whether or not a seat is open at that moment, and more than one person here started with a conversation that began exactly that way. A good technician is worth making room for.
Do I need to be ASE certified already?
For a technician role it carries real weight, but demonstrated diagnostic ability matters more than the certificate on its own. If you are working toward certification and can show how you approach a fault, talk to us.
How much European experience do I need?
European vehicles are a large part of the workload, so experience helps, but nobody is expected to arrive knowing every platform. What matters is being comfortable with module communication and live data rather than stopping at a generic code.
Do I need my own tools?
Technicians bring their own hand tools, which is standard in the trade. Lifts, diagnostic equipment and specialty tooling are the shop's, and the diagnostic side gets updated because the vehicles coming in require it.
Is the service writer role commission based?
Compensation is discussed directly with you, and it is worth saying plainly that nobody at this counter is asked to sell repairs a vehicle does not need. The shop's reputation rests on that, and it is not negotiable.
What are the hours, honestly?
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Closed Sunday. Specific schedules and any Saturday rotation are worked out when we talk, and we will be straight with you about it up front.
